Dear Brenda Bridges
I have some info about Ohio, since my Great Grandfather came from Barnesville, Ohio, he and his three brothers helped settle this area, which extended into what is now West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
His brother Ebenezer was the "High Sherrif" of the Ohio Territory for many years, in the 1949 National Geographic as well as the family notes. The other brother, Robert, went into Pennsylvania and stayed, not much is known by my family but if you looked in the Family Tree Maker, I'll bet you might find your Martha. Do you have any idea who the Sproat was she came from? That would be the best approach, but if you have only Martha, don't give up, look for her on the Family Tree Maker.
There were other families migrating about that time due to the land rush from the East coast as well as Canada. Lots of Sproats migrated into the US from Canada. Two brothers from Ireland come to mind, I'll have to look through my notes, as I don't think they were our direct relation. The Sproat line is so small when compared with other lines, it is relatively easy to connect, as a matter of Fact, Martha Cooper was related to Robert (my Robert) from the first family in Scituate, MA.
Please let me know were or who
Martha's parents were, mabe we
can tie her into the family!
PS I have been looking for almost thirty years, so success is spelled "WORK"! Don't get discouraged, it will happen!
