I have a relative named James Sproat, born 1788 in Borgue, Kirkcudbright (KKD). He died in 1837 at Gledpark, Auchenday, Borgue, KKD. He married Jeanette Houston, born 27 Oct. 1792, also of Borgue, KKD. They had 6 children one of which was Hugh Sproat, born March 3, 1814. Hugh moved from Scotland to Stourbridge, Worcestershire, where he had a "Pawnbroker" type store. He also started similar stores in Darlaston, Staffordshire. He finally died in Birkenhead, Cheshire, across the Mersey from Liverpool. He may have had an interest in a cargo type ship with other family members. One of his children, Annie Sproat, born 1885,immigrated to Canada in 1915.
This is meant as a way to contact you without any real specific information on the seafaring activities of my family. I will have to research some obscure things I have come up with after about a year of research. Contact me if further interested in my info.
