Thanks for posting the information about Sarah Currell and John Spruill.

In regard to William Currell, the name Currell is fairly rare but William Currell is listed in the 1755 Tyrrell county tax records, and in many court documents 1750 to 1760's (Tyrrell and Washington Counties). For example, he took several people to court for tresspassing, was a county road overseer, etc.

John Spruill (Sr) is also listed in many of the same pages. Check the book list at the Tyrrell County web site for Stephen Bradley and Betty Fagan Burr's books for court info for that period.

Other 1700 Currell's are listed in Nash County records (Mathew, Lewis, John, etc.) Many Currells hailed from lancaster, VA and are listed as early as 1748 in Parish records. Several served as midshipmen in the Revolutionary War. (William Currell served as Ship Master of the Elizabeth in 1671... abt the time Godfrey Spruill, also Scottish, came to America.)

Anyway, hope this helps,

Jim Spruell
