VICTOR HUGO SPRUILL - NC to TN to MD

I am desperately seeking information on VICTOR HUGO SPRUILL. He was born sometime between about 1877-1896 most likely in HALIFAX COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA. By 1920 he was living in LOUDON COUNTY, TENNESSEE. By 1942, he was living in MARYLAND, probably near BALTIMORE. He married MABEL McALISTER, most likely in TENNESSEE. They had several children, 3 I think, but I am very much not sure. One son, VICTOR FOUTE SPRUILL was born 1-25-1925 in Chatanooga, TN and dies in 2004 in Texas. The move to MARYLAND was after 1925, when Victor Foute was born. VICTOR HUGO's father may have been a J.B. SPRUILL, but that's just a sort of a guess from a random piece of info. ANY information would me extremely helpful. I am new at researching this family line, but not to research altogether.
