I have been researching 1700s Thomas Berry in VA/NC and have seen a will which mentions Scotland Neck. There are a
couple of Sprouls near the Berry family and seems that there
was a marriage within the families.
I don't have time this evening to check my notes. But if you search for "Berry" "Sproul" in NC you'd probably find,
I think it is William Sproul.
