Spurgeon of Rowan/Davidson, NC

John Morefield m. Elizabeth Hines 17 aug 1828 in Davidson, NC. A witness to their marriage was I. Spurgin or J. Spurgin. There were Morefields in Rowan, NC as early as 1768, and I suspect that John lived in the part of Rowan Co. that became Davidson Co. in 1822.

There was a Spurgin Morefield, b. NC @1811/1812. He was probably the son of the John who married Elizabeth Hines, but by a previous marriage (John was born 1770/1780). Spurgin was living in Marion, IN by 1850 and then moved to IL. He married a Rachel Williams, but I have not found a marriage record.

The Morefields very consistently used the mother's maiden name as the first or middle name of the eldest son, which makes me think that John Morefield may have first married a Spurgeon. I am interested in any information about Spurgeons who may have been associated with the Morefield families of this region and am happy to share the information I have collected on Spurgin Morefield.
