I have no idea if this is any help to you as when I try to trace Margaret Spurgeon I can't find her children and there is conflicting information on ages and dates, but the one I am searching was Margaret (Peggy) Cumbo(w) who married Joseph Spurgeon. They did have a son James who was born in VA. the last census I have them on is 1870 in Wise Co. Va. the ages are not correct for the parents, the children on the three census I have them on are a little more consistant. Margaret Spurgeon signs property over to her sister Mary Cumbo in 1879 and I can't find any record of any of her large family after that, obviously they moved sometime during 1880 probably missing the census, and we don't know where they went--these people fall in the melungeon category so may be why they are so difficult to trace.
