I think that I have found Margaret in Sevier Co., TN in 1870. Later census info indicates that the parents of James Taylor Spurgeon were born in TN as he was, according to the censuses anyway. This is the info that I have found:

1870 Census Cocke Co., TN, Dist. 8, Newport P.O., Page 441A, HH# 50:

William Vincent, 96, Farmer, Value of Real Estate, 10,000, Value of Personal Estate, 1000, Delaware
Margaret Spurgeon, 30, Housekeeper, TN
James, 15, Laborer on Farm, TN
John, 12, Laborer on Farm, TN
Thomas, 7, TN
Miranda, 1, TN

Mr. Vincent's age on the census is clearly 90something that looks like a 6 but is unlike the other 6s on the page-but it is clear that the census states that he is 90something! The census states that he is deaf.

This does appear to be James Taylor Spurgeon. It is known that he had two brothers, John and Thomas. No one has heard of a sister named Miranda, tho. Margaret's marital status is not given. According to the census, Margaret could not write, James and John could not read nor write.
Maranda, 1, TN. There is no relationship noted between Mr. Vincent and Margaret.

I still have not found Margaret in the household with a husband, so it is possible that she was not really married. I am not sure just what to think of that!

I do appreciate your assistance. I don't think at this time that my Margaret and yours are the same person. Good luck in finding your Margaret!

Thanks again!
