There is a James Spurgeon who died 1790 in Bedford Co PA. His will was proved 1 July 1790. (It was written in 1784). The will is filed in Will Book 22, p. 122,not recorded until 1956. Wife Ann (Susannah in deeds). His children were John, James, William, Samuel, Ezekiel, Ann, Mary, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Lydia. This is probably the immigrant. His son James Jr moved to Adams Co OH, wife Eleanor. Lydia married Peter Patrick of Westmoreland and Fayette Co PA and Nelson Co KY. John Spurgeon is probably the one at Blooming Rose MD mentioned in the Meshack Browning book who had the daughter Lydia by Mary Green. This is a younger Lydia. The James who died in WV in 1810 is also younger and is probably a son of this John also, by a first wife Mary, and not a son of the immigrant James d. 1790. John of Blooming Rose does not seem to have left an estate record and no Bible has turned up to prove things. Some deeds do go back and forth.
