Spurgeon vs Spurgin, William H; 1845-1908

Are there two men named William H. Spurgeon and Spurgin?
I have a William H. Spurgeon married to Sarah E. Rinehart 16 may 1875 in Marion Co., Iowa. There is then a William H. Spurgin married to Elen Bouma 14 Feb 1878. I realize that an error could have been made in the spelling and William was married to both Sarah and Elen; however, cemetery records of Marion Co., Iowa show that a William Spurgin 1845-1908 was buried next to Sarah Ellen, wf 1859-1889 AND Sarah Ellen Spurgeon wf 9 Dec 1854- Aug 1876. Census records also seem to conflict with birth dates.
