Frances Shrofe/Sroufe (1814-1886)

Seeking the parents of Frances Shrofe, born on June 14, 1814, near Montgomery Co., Ohio, who died on July 25, 1886, and is buried with her husband in the Gilead Cemetery, Perry Township, Miami County, Indiana.

It is likely that her parents were Lewis and Hannah Shrofe, who migrated there from Ohio. Other possibilities are complicated by the many variations of her surname (e.g., Shoup, Shroup, Sroufe, Shroufe, etc.), though immediate family records have consistently used the "Shrofe" spelling.

On October 18, 1834, Frances married Daniel C. Hoover (1814-1892) in Montgomery Co. About 1839 they moved to the Fulton/Miami county area of Indiana.

They had sixteen children: Mary (1835-1836), Henry (born 1837 who married Mary Carr), James (1838-1865), David (born 1840 who married Carolyn Yeaghley), Elizabeth (born 1840 who married John Wesley Clifton), Martha Jane (born 1842 who married Martin Kepler), Joseph (born 1843 who married Alvira Tracy), Nancy (1843-1844), Susan (1845-1847), Alexander Noah (born 1846 who married Emma Alice Cook), Absalom (born 1848 who married Ida Harter), Alfred (1850-1884), Albert (1852-1854), Elizabeth (born 1852 who married Amos Murphy), Harriett (born 1855 who married Jacob Dorman Bower), and Charles Fremont (born 1857 who married Mary Hulling).
