Alice Orcelia Sroufe Wever photo at Find-A-Grave

There is a grave listed at FindAGrave.com of Alice Orcelia Sroufe Wever that has a photograph of her with it. I too own this photo and several of people photographed in the same room at the same time that I can not identify them.

The person who posted this photo hasn't returned my emails. Please, who ever is related to this woman or can recognize her contact me. I have NO information on my Sroufe line even though this photo and accompanying text has given me much to go on.

Through census records I've discovered that Alice's brothers David & Henry split up after their father James Sroufe died. One when to Texas, the other to South Dakota. Their mother, Charlotte remarried James Hunter and the remaining children, including my great grandma, Anna Sroufe used the Hunter name. I don't know when Anna stopped at began using Sroufe.

Also, through census records I found that many in the family were blind or had other disabilities, an Oliver Sroufe is found in the poor house in Iowa.

Anna died young and left several children who lost her story and the history of her family and this is what I am trying to discover. Her husband, John Ellsworth was an orphan at a young age and left home with the Essex family to Iowa from Illinois.

Thanks for reading.

LISA
