Me too. He was married at least twice; I *think* his first wife was a Phebe Baldwin, in Greene county OH, and he either divorced or abandoned her. He had two older sons, John and Howard, both born in Ohio. I can't find a marriage record for he and Mary E. Wear (daughter of Simpson Wear and Sarah Harvey), but there was a 17 year age difference (at least). The family has not yet been located in the 1850 census, but was in McDonough county IL in 1860, Taylor county IA in 1870, and Texas county MO in 1880. The children I remember, in no particular order are: George W, Mary Melinda, Benjamin Francis, Rebecca Jane, Laura.

I have heard that death date for YEARS, but no one seems to know where. He apparently went BACK to Ohio, according to one story.

For what it's worth, my current theory is that he was the son of a George Sroufe b. 1793,and Rebecca Dunn. I have no proof of this other than geography and childrens' names. This George (1793) was likely the son of John Sroufe, b. 1771, and Sarah Jackson.

have we corresponded before? This line has been giving me fits for years.
