Margaret,
Please could you get in contact with me, as I have been researching the Stableses of South Yorkshire for two years now.
I have over 600 Stableses in my database and managed to link over two hundred together onto my family tree. I am still trying to connect up the others.
I have records of people moving from Barnburgh to Tickhill, Wentworth, etc. that are earlier than you quote and have about four likely candidates for the person you seek. I also have a lot of other background material that isn't available on the IGI or GRO, such as wills, photos, headstone inscriptions.
Generally, within the Stables lines the first born son is always called William. This goes back as far as the early 1600s.
I have visited churches in Barnburgh, Tickhill, Melton, Hooton Pagnell, etc., etc. and photographed inscriptions and memorial plaques.
We should be able to help each other with our research, so I hope to hear from you.
regards,
Andy Stables
