Hello Jason,
I have read your posting numerous times and my humble opinion is that you appear to have only surplanted your theory in rebuttal to what you refer to as the _1757 theory_ of many of us.
I will attempt to concisely address your evidence and if you wish to discuss it further we can mayhaps do that via e-mail.
My first comment is that nowhere in your message have you
verified the age of the Robert Stacy you refer to in York Co., Va. 1783-1786 evidenced by your theories.
Evidence:
1783/1784 tax records
Were this the Robert Stacy born 1757 to John & Anne; how is it that he does not appear on an earlier tax list or court record?Indenture was to the age of 21 (1778)... leaving a 5-year skip and no job?
Nov. 1, 1785 land sale
Where/when was this Robert Stacy married ... was his wife originally from York Co.?
Customs then as customs now ... varied. However, law often dictated that a couple be married in the county of
residence of the bride.
September, 1791
Here you state that OUR Robert Stacy is/was ordered to _GUARD_ a road in S.C. and you cite my rather singular name as source.I feel sure I have never cited a source to you and I know for fact I never cited what you state to _anyone_ because it's WRONG.Robert Stacy of then Spartanburg Co., S.C. was ordered to OVERSEE a road to the Union Co. line.OVERSEE meaning he was responsible for seeing that the road was built/repaired as specified by the court and be in charge of the road gang who did the building/repairing.And yes, it was responsibility only assigned to those whom the court knew and trusted to get the job done ... overseer's most often had to post rather sizeable bonds.
That _A_ Robert Stacy appeared in court 1791 York Co., Va.
to me is moot regardless of how fast OUR S.C. Robert Stacy's horse was because noone I know has ever assumed OUR Robert ever returned to Virginia after his relocating to S.C.
Am I just missing something? You state more than once that
_the_ Robert Stacy of record in York Co., Va. 1783/84 appeared in tax records of Warwick Co. where he'd moved as early as 1787 yet under this heading you have _him_ back in York Co. as a court witness in 1791.Does this court record specifically denote this witness as being of/from
Warwick Co.?
By the time _this_ Robert Stacy makes _his_ initial 1783-1784 appearance; OUR Robert Stacy having been an orphan; his apprenticeship behind him; I don't doubt was practicing his trade and paying taxes elsewhere.
Afterthought:January 1794 you state _this_ Robert Stacy witnessed a marriage again in York Co., Va., citing _his_ handwriting in comparison to the known handwriting of OUR proven Robert Stacy ... I miss your point entirely?
I believe that we quite probably have correctly alignedOUR Robert Stacy with the "1757 theory".I at least don't see anything within your message that offers any conclusive evidence we haven't.
