I have only recently accessed this web site and in less than a week I have found people with links to my family. John Hamblin Staddon was one of my great great grandfather's 3 sons. He was called Hamblin as it was his mother's maiden name. His parents Richard Staddon born 1833 Bovey Tracey and Betsy Hamblin born 1837 in Goodworth Clatford Hants, married on 18/08/1862 (and believe it or not I have a photo of them)in Southhampton Hants.
Richard grew up in Devon became a bootmaker, and then joined the army and went on to fight in the Crimean war in the 7th fusiliers. He was wounded at the battle of Alma nursed by Florence Nightingale and when he left the army he married Betsy and he became a police man in Hampshire.I have his police records and a photo of him in uniform.

His son James Rawlinson Staddon was born in Devon and I had absolutely no proof why he had that middle name althought I had considered that it might be after a general in the army.
I know James had actually married twice and he had ended up going to Canada and that was where he had died in 1936.

John Hamblin Staddon I had found in the 1901 census but I new very little about him until your message. However in the last week I have discovered when he died.
They also had a brother called Frederick who also served in the army. ( I have pictures of both Fred and James in army uniform sent to their sister Mary Bowden (I really don't know why this middle name!)Andrews nee Staddon (my great grandmother)
I have more info certificates and pictures if you are interested.
Many thanks you have made my day!
