1850 census Pike Co.,AL shows Peter & Elizabeth Stagner with children including John born abt 1844. I have a note about a John Marion Stagner, born 25 Sept 1843 Pike Co. marr Malinda Ann Rouse, 1 Jan 1867 Pike Co AL. His bro, acc to my notes, was Daniel W.Stagner who marr Nancy Parish ca. 1865 prob in Ala. Daniel died 7 Aug 1877 in Wood Co., TX. This Daniel W. may be the William in Peter's family. My note says, further, "The father and an uncle of these two brothers came over from Germany. One brother (or uncle) settled in another part of the US; the other brother came south and eventually bought a plantation in Pike Co., Ala. Years later when the Civil War broke out these two children, Daniel & John Marion, fought against each other. John Marion fought for the North and Daniel fought for the South." I'm not sure where this info came from, but - given time - could probably locate it. Another note says this family was originally from South Carolina; then Alabama; then Texas.
