Stagner research leads me to believe that "most" Kentucky Stagners are from either Madison Co. or Warren Co., Kentucky. Many of the Warren Co Stagners settled in Dent Co., Missouri. Some researchers show William Sidney Stagner as a son of Thomas Stagner and Elizabeth Haley. Apparently, Thomas married Elizabeth in Rockcastle Co., KY in 1857. Note that Rockcastle adjoins Madison Co on the south. The 1880 census for Madison Co KY shows a Sydney Stagner, born 1830. In the same neighborhood [Elliston District] is a Thomas R. Stagner, born 1820. I know who the Thomas R. Stagner is. I wonder of Sydney is somehow related. Not a very common name, Sydney.
