1792 - for more than 60 years “the year of the sheep” landowners in the Highlands forced out tenant farmers. Soldiers gave six hours to tenants to remove cattle, furniture and belongings. More than 1/4 million men, women & children forced out. Only the strong ones were alive when ships landed in Canada.
James and his father, Lewis, came to Canada in 1832. (source: James’s Obituary)
There were excellent rail connections from the Canadian ports to the US Mid-West and elsewhere in North America. Because of this, many emigrants who were bound for the US also sailed to Canada and then headed west by train.

James Stalker b. 15 Jun 1820 in Rafford Moray County Scotland (son of Lewis Stalker and Christian Paul). He died 17 Jan 1873 Jeddo, Michigan, St. Clair County (accidental fall in barn)
Obituary said he came to Canada age 12 with father, Lewis.
