My great great grandfather was Duncan Stalker who had a brother named Gilbert who married Sarah McAlister. I think this is the same family that you are referring to - because Duncan and his wife Flora Stewart came to south-western Ontario in 1851 and settled at Crinan which is near West Lorne Ontario. Duncan and Flora are both buried in the Wardsville Cemetary.
Duncan and Flora had 7 children - the first was Euphemia born in 1845 in Killean Parish in Argyleshire. Next was Peter born in 1847 - he was my great grandfather. The third child was John, born in 1850, also in Scotland. The family settled on the west half of Lot 21 concession 2 in Alborough Township. They had four more children in Canada - Archibald, Duncan (died at age 5 years), William and Duncan Jr.
It is my understanding that Duncan and Gilbert and their families (and perhaps other siblings) came to Ontario around the same time (1851) with their father, John Stalker, who had married Euphemia McCallum in Scotland. Euphemia died at age 43 in 1819 and is said to be buried in Rhonahaorine, Killean Parish, Argyleshire. John and Euphemia McCallum had nine children between 1799 and 1818.
So I think you and I are related Maurice!
I am planning a visit to Scotland in the next year and hope to get to Killean Parish to see where these people lived. If you have been there and have any tips, please send them along!
Carol Stalker, Kitchener, Ontario
