Leroy Carrell’s 3rd wife:

Married December 29, 1874 Erath, McLennan County, Texas

Mary Anne Matthews

September 14, 1826 Lawrence County, Alabama

April 26, 1882 Erath County, Texas

1st Husband Mr. Miller

2nd Husband Rhesa (Reece) Green Stallcup

Mary Anne is the daughter of Thomas D. Matthews and Mary Mason Sherill

Rhesa (Reece) Green Stallcup was born December 26, 1812 in Orange County, North Carolina and died 1867 Panola County, Texas. His first wife was Elvina Jane Campbell of which he had a daughter Mary F. Stallcup born December 30, 1844 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas and died January 20, 1919 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. Reece married Elvina Jane January 25, 1843 in Lamar County, Texas and divorced her in early 1845.

Stallcup returned to the North, from which he had come and after two years, Mary Anne moved to Brown County, Texas, met and married Leroy Carrell and died there. By the 1870 Census Beat 4 Panola County Texas (Roll M593_1601/Page 321) Mary is by herself keeping house.

R.G. Stallcup is a descendant of John Anderson who came from Sweden to Fort Christina in New Sweden (Delaware) in 1641. It is thought that most families bearing the name Stealcup, Stallcup, Staulcup, Stallcop or any variation of those names are his descendants with the exception of a few families found in Wisconsin in 1880 and later. They list Germany as their homeland. There’s is much information out there for those who would wish to research Rhesa’s lineage. As for me, I will not proceed since he in not a true, direct line.

Mr. Miller married Mary Ann in 1842

Mary Anne and Reece raised Elvina Jane, plus had 9 children together.

Your grandfather was good friends with my grandfather's brother: Daniel Thomas. Dan and Jim were jumping trains around 1903.

Write Gwen (on this site) she knows many things about your family.
