Marie Henriette Stallman, 1740's Waldeck

My gggg grandmother was Marie Henriette Stallman of possibly Elleringhausen, Waldeck/Hesse, Germany. I have no dates on her, but she was married to Johann Friedrich Meyer. One known child was Johann Christian Meyer who married Marie Henriette Schweier in the village of Elleringhausen on 26 April 1797, and they had one known son Christian Ludwig Meyer born 18 Nov 1797 in Elleringhausen.

Christian Ludwig Meyer married Sophie F. E. Reddehause, date and place unknown (apparently not in Elleringhausen), but their 9 known children were born in Elleringhausen. Their fifth child Johann Heinrich Fredrich Ludwig Meyer was my g grandfather, born 10 Feb 1833. Ludwig/Louis emigrated to St Louis, MO, in Sep 1850. He listed his age as 18, but did not list anyone that he was traveling with on his immigration card. In the censuses he listed his birthplace as Waldeck. He apparently did not keep contact with his family back in Germany for in c1862 his younger brother Heinrich Christian Fredrich Meyer (b 1837) emigrated to the St Louis area. He started looking for Ludwig by walking from farm to farm on the Illinois side, working for meals and a place to sleep. The two brothers finally met at Ludwig's well, and started talking only to realize that they were brothers. Fredrich stayed with Ludwig, and when Ludwig was called to serve in the Civil War, he paid his brother $500 to serve in his place. Fredrich got most of one ear shot off by a cannonball, but returned to IL, married and raise a large family. In all of his pictures Fredrich has his head turned so that the partial ear can not be seen. Three of Fredrich's children married children of Carl Franke of St Louis Co., MO. Carl Franke was also from another villiage in the Waldeck area, and have just recently found out that his wife was Elizabeth Meyer from Elleringhausen. Elizabeth was not a sister to Ludwig and Fredrick, apparently though a relative.

Most of the above info came from a late cousin of my late grandfather and also a Meyer/Stallman descendent who obtained the info from the village church in Elleringhausen in c1950. His family remained in Germany. I would suspect that my Stallman ancestor was related to the other Stallmans in the Waldeck/Hesse area.

Any help or comments appreciated.

Judie
