Botetourt Co,VA Deed Bk 15 page 277 dated November 5,1822
This Indenture made the 5th day of November one thousand eight hundred and twenty two between Samuel Cleage and Mary his wife of the County of Botetourt and State of Virginia of the one part and David Stanback of the County of Botetourt and State aforsaid of the other part. Wit___that the said Samuel Cleage & Mary his wife for & in the consideration of the sum of one hundred dollard to them in hand paid,the receipt whereof is hereby achnowledged have bargained granted and sold unto the said David Stanback their interest consisting of one seventh part of a certain tract of land formerly the property of John Stanback deceased containing fifty nine acres lying being and situats in the County of Botetourt on the south waters of Roanoke river being a track of land conveyed to Michael Stanback by Philip Stanback in June one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven and bounded as follows beginning at a white oak in the division line between Benjamin Whiteneck & Philip Stanback_____(Note:description continues as other deeds)Samuel Clege

Additional note on Samuel Clege:In book of early Botetourt history it is mentioned that he was a contractor who left county in 1823 and went south. A daughter Salley m.Thomas Crutchfield June 19,1820 with Alexander Cleage being sec. and another daghter married Walter Nutter Dec.8,1821
