Margaret "Troutman" I believe is the mother of Jeremiah Irvin, whom I am decended from. I have found on some Civil War records some misinformation as well. Jeremiah's wife, Lucretia Dunn, is listed on his pension papers as having never been married before her marriage to Jeremiah. I have proof from church records that she had a child with another man before she married Jeremiah, and a newspaper article that lists the death of that child and has her as "Mrs. Howard." The child that died was no secret to the family, so I doubt a marriage would have been.
Is it possible that possibly Margaret may have briefly been married to a "Troutman" who may have died so that is why that name is listed on the marriage certificate for her? I know sometimes widows when they remarried it wasn't always made clear that the previous name was not a maiden name. Just a thought.
