If you are talking about the Johann Jacob Stambach (Stambaugh) buried near Elliottsburg, it is not the same family. There were some of the York County Stambaughs that came to
Perry County in the early 1800s, but the large family there was descended from Johann Philipp Stambach, a 1739 immigrant that also came from Alsace. The two immigrant families were
no doubt related, but we have been unable to determine the exact relationship. The Alsatian Stambach families have been positively connected to the noble family from Bohemia named
von Stampach. Unfortunately, when they fled Bohemia as Protestant refugees during the 30 years war, they scattered all over Europe. It is not certain whether the families in Alsace came
directly from Bohemia or by way of Switzerland. Anyway, I thought that I'd throw this in. Duncannon is fairly far from the family homestead of Jacob Stambaugh at Elliottsburg, but I know of
no other early Jacob Stambaugh in Perry County that fits your description. The Jacob I refer to is my ancestor. He was a Revolutionary War veteran (Continental Line and Frontier Militia)
and was buried on his farm which he purchased in 1788. It is still owned by descendants today. I was last there about 20 years ago. Best of luck with your research. By the way, Jacob's
grandfather was Ulrich Stambach of Alsace, who was married in the late 1600s. His great grand father may have been named Ulrich also, but no proof. I have seen data on the Internet,
but I learned of this about 10 years ago when I was involved in a family history project among descendants working with a French researcher.
