Two Lines for Stambaugh/Stumbaugh/Stumbo

From the research done by Ray Grove, Don Stumbo, myself and others, there appears to be two lines of Stambaugh/Stumbaugh/Stumbo's in the U.S. -- one descended from Felix Stambach (1643, Alsace) and the other from Frederick Stumbaugh (1736-abt 1830, Rockingham Co, VA). We have yet to decipher the connection between the two.

Personally, I feel there *must* be a connection. Kenneth Stumbo of Auburn, WA is often mistaken for me or is thought to be my brother but he is clearly a descendant of Felix and I am a descendant of Frederick.

Frederick's father is thought to be Jacob Stambach, but information is sketchy on him. Did he come from PA where the other Stambach's settled or did he independently emigrate from the Alsace? Is he, in fact, Frederick's father? If he came from the Alsace, did he descend from Felix or the same family?

Does anyone know or have some clues???

Stan Stumbo
