I am interested in the Stampley family because John Stampley b. 1750 m. Martha Phoebe Curtis in South Carolina abt. 1775. My primary research is on my Curtis family but I have also taken an interest in the Stampley family. I have a George Stampley b. abt. 1740 who married Elizabeth ? abt. 1768. I show a daughter, Margaret, but she seems to be a different person. I show her date of birth abt. 1794 and show her married to Joseph M. Slater in 1827. I am unsure what the relationship is between John and George. Some think they are brothers, I think John is a nephew. One of the problems as your query illustrates is that there are many gaps in the historical records available to research the early Stampley family relationships. George had a brother, Henry Stampley, who was in the Natchez area in the 1770's. I believe Henry played a role in the Curtis party moving to the area in the early 1780's. One theory worth persuing is that your Margaret is a daughter of Henry and his wife Margaret. The first Baptist Church in Mississippi, Salem Baptist Church, was formed at Margert's home in 1792 after Henry died.
