Diane, We have communicated in the past. I believe you are correct that Jacob and Maybella were cousins and shared the same grandparents, Jacob Stampley and Mary Cole. James Cole, Mary's older brother married Jemima Curtis, the younger sister of my fourth great grandfather, Richard Curtis, Jr. In his book about early protestant ministers in Mississippi, the Rev. John Griffing Jones, interviewed John Illand Stampley, the father of Maybella. John Illand recounted the day that Richard Curtis, Jr. returned to the Natchez District from his exile in South Carolina, where he had fled in 1795 to avoid arrest by the Spanish authorities. Needless to say there was a very close relationship between the Stampley/Cole/and Curtis families. Feel free to contact me at to continue this conversation.
