The Ottawa Herald, Friday, June 15, 1951, p. 3, cols. 5 & 6
Mrs. John M. Stanbro, 87, of rural Rantoul, well known pioneer resident of Franklin and Miami counties, died today at 7:15 a.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. E. Miller, Rantoul. She had been in failing health three years and had been seriously ill 10 days.
Myrtle Whitehead was born in Stanton township, Miami county, Feb. 27, 1864. Her father, William Whitehead, a Republican, was in Topeka during the memorable fight of the Populists and Republicans in the legislature of 1892-3. He courageously assisted in the defense of the homes and families of the Kansas settlers during the Price and Quantrell [sic] raids.
After the death of the mother of Mrs. Stanbro when she was a small girl, the Indians tried to buy her from the family. She was first married to A. O. Buchanan who died Oct. 7, 1896, and later to John M. Stanbro who died June 25, 1939. She moved to Ottawa in 1918 and lived here until 1940 when she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Miller.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. F. E. Miller, Rantoul, and Mrs. Earl Ragland, Grand Junction, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Harve Savidge, Paola, and Mrs. Louis [sic] Gardner, Ottawa; one brother, James Whitehead, Palisade, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stanbro was a member of the Stanton United Brethren church. Funeral services will be in Lamb Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Stanton cemetery.

NOTE: I have not been able to locate an obituary for Elizabeth Marcellus, John M. Stanbro's first wife.
