Jesse Lafayette Standard (1854-?)
Jesse L. Standard, (1854-?) Alabama native, came to Texas sometime before 1898 and resided (for a while) in Lampasas County. In 1898, he moved to Taylor County, Texas. He bought a farm near the Old Tuscola settlement. About 1902, Mr. Standard convinced Miss Ruth Butchee to come and stay in his home and teach music to the children of the community. Later she married Raleigh Stanford who was elected as and served as the Governor of the State of Arizona.
It is believed he married Miss Fannie Pouncy. There were four children in this family: Jesse (Duge), Leo, Gladys, and Joe. Leo Standard married Miss Gladys Bull. Gladys married Charlie Collins.
It is also thought that they had another son: Robert E. Standard (1876-1968.) This has not yet been confirmed, however.
I'd love to hear from anyone who might have more information on this branch of Standards. I'm not a direct descendant, but am distantly connected by marriage.
Hope to hear soon!
