I would take a guess that the parents of Thomas were William Henderson Standifer b Dec 1850; m Georgia TUMLIN 18 Oct 1895 Cherokee Co, AL. Wm was a lawyer and 3 times Mayor of Gadsden, AL, also Justice of the Peace.

This info from Carol Yarbrough's website, you might post a query on her site, too.

Using an online directory, typing in Standifer, and Detroit, MI there are seven Standifers listed. You might contact some of them, see if they are descendants of Thomas. I notice there are none with spelling of Standefer, so they look good.
