Have an interesting document: the original land grant from the US govt. to William P. Standefer for land in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Dated 1824, signed by John Quincy Adams. Found (thankfully framed) in a closet at my grandmother's house after my grandmother died. Curious as to why we have it in our possession in the first place. My people in the area were McMillans, Greenwoods and Terrells. Two similar, later deeds were found with it listing Thomas Greenwood as grantee, but I can find no connection. Perhaps Standefer just sold Greenwood (or someone else in my family )the property? Does anyone know? Thanks! - Anne Elise
