prior to amalgamtion in 1967 the towns of hartlepool and west hartlepool were two separate entities with same or similar sounding street names. hartlepool as above is known as 'old' or the 'ancient borough of'. they married in 'old' hartlepool but may have moved to west hartlepool! it is complicated but makes a big difference!
marriage at st hilda's church in 'old' hartlepool on the 20 december 1893:
william standing age 24 and a mariner.
son of thomas standing (deceased).
2 town wall in hartlepool.
isabella lilly age 19.
daughter of john lilly a toll collector.
2 town wall in hartlepool.
present were david wilson and annie burdon. by banns.
