Hi Anne in NZ,

Yes, I have gone back even further than that John who was born illegitimately to a Catherine(Kitty)Standing. While searching at the Public Records Offices at Maidstone, I found her birth at Biddenden and her death at Brenchley, but no marriage. Her parents and grandparents both lived and died in Biddenden. Catherine(Kitty) had three siblings, 2 sisters and 1 brother. I do not know much about them, other than their births. Her parents were Thomas Standen and Elizabeth Cook. The surname changed to Standing from Standen in this generation, when Catherine moved, I wondered if there was a family dispute, we are told that this is often the case. I myself came down the line of Thomas Standing, who married Harriett Terry-Barham, and who was one of the 10 sons of John, son of Catherine (Kitty). I am happy to share any details you might like to have. Which line do you come down from? Please write back, would love to here from you!
Bye from Rainy England,
William
