That is great to know - the first wife of James W. Standridge.Thank you.Do you know Caroline's maiden name??They are buried about a mile from here at Caddo Church and James W. Standridge's brother John Berry Standridge is buried there also. Here they say that James W. Standridge had a fruit tree orchard and that there wer peach, apple and pear trees that bloomed up the hillside in the springtime. There are actually two housesites on this place. The older one on the hill was apparently a small two room house and there is still a well pipe under a large oaktree there. The other homesite is closer to the road (county road 362) and that is where everyone remembers James W. and his wife living and where the spring water ran onto the back porch. He had a large "duck house" and pond out back from the house, but it also sadly is all gone.I found pieces of old churns in the dirt and glued them back together.I never found a whole churn, but traces of several. You see, I am a history nut!No, I am not related at all.I just wanted to know the history of this place when we moved here.I love this land very much and felt that the people who lived here before us must have loved it just the same.I asked everyone I saw "who used to live here" where was the old house" and so on.Bit by bit I learned about the standridge family. The music played by Lee Standrige was a harmonica, but Q.R. Lentz reports that he could "really make it sing".Q.R. Lentz is in his 80's.I don't know how Lee fit in the family tree, but probably a grandson of J.W. Standridge. If you ever get over to Caddo, let me know and I'll gladly show you around.
