STANALAND / STANLEY surname variations Y-DNA Project
There is at last a Y-DNA project in which STANELAND, STANALAND, STANLEY and all people bearing a variation of those names. The project was organized as the STANLEY project and included their known spelling variations, but yesterday the administrator agreed that it was sensible to add the STANALAND surname and all the known and possible variations (which includes STANLEY).
We will need to add STANELAND, but the names now on the site are: Stanaland, Stanland, Staniland, Stanoland, Stangland, Stangeland, Stanley, Stanly, Standley, Standly, Stenlund, Stanlan or Stanalan, Stanilan
If you have one of those surnames ...or STANELAND ...please consider having a male on the line DNA tested ...hopefully on at least 37 markers, but you will likely want or need to refine to 67 markers in time.
Yesterday, I ordered a Y-DNA 67 marker test kit for my husband born 1944 in Texas and my goal is now to find as many people to test as possible ...from all over the USA and the world. Read my response here to Sonia STANELAND for more information.
The testing is being managed by the company FamilyTreeDNA out of Houston TX with a lab at University of Arizona conducting the tests. National Geographic also participates with their own project "Worldwide GEnographic Project" that uses (with permission) the tests to track peoples in their historic migrations. Those tests don't track names ..just peoples.
However, the FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) tests Surnames and also has Locality projects ...and there is much I do not yet understand about the genealogical DNA testing, therefore I can't explain it. However I do know that from participating in 2 other MALE SURNAME Y-DNA projects (McLAIN spellings through Clan MacLEAN ...and BROCK surname) that the test results and DNA matches puts me in touch with the matches ..and allows us to all communicate and share our genealogy.
Please post here ...or email me (connect the spaces) at audstan @ chartertn. net for more information.
