I was wandering thru the Stanphill board and found your mention of Gotcher. Are you ready for some really complicated connections? William Gray (born 1799 at sea on trip from England) settled in Russelville Alabama and married Mary Gotcher. They had Polly, Jane, Cardine and Gideon. William married secondly Esther Sanders (my husband's line) and one of their children was Hetty Ann Gray who married Joseph Sullinger Cleveland. Joseph's parents were Thomas Anderson Cleveland and Evaline Sullinger. Evaline's parents were James Sullinger and Soky - a full blooded Choctaw - Evaline's sister was Lutishia who married "P" Stanphill. Lutishia and "P" Stanphill had William, James and Charles. Lutishia, her brother Charles and her nephew James Cleveland all sued the Choctaw nation for membership and I have that documentation if any of the Stanphills are related. What I would like to know more about is Mary Gotcher. Even tho we are not descended from that marriage, someday we will hopefully find others who are. It would be interesting to know who Mary Gotcher was.
