Haven't heard of a fire, don't know too much about the STANTs at Wrexham. I understand that branch came originally from Flint/Denbighshire. Also, Llewellyn STANT born thereabouts ended up in Leicestershire, where his family still live today.
I know today there is a building firm, Walter Derek STANT at Wrexham, started in the 1960's, Walter retired 1990's.
A lot of STANTs seem to have been builders/stone masons, one thought is the name 'Stant' was derived from a meaning of 'Stone' back in time, so maybe it's in the blood ?
Joseph STANT's family from Ellesmere ended up in Shrewsbury with a big building firm, built much of that town. There's a will of the last-in-line, Mary STANT, who gave the fortune away to in-laws and friends but left out STANT relatives.
My family: Thomas STANT was a mason/bricklayer building many red-stone buildings around mid-Shropshire. He's buried at Ruyton XI Towns. He was descended from Joseph STANT.
There don't seem to be many STANTs in North Wales or Shropshire today. If they were anything like my family, they lacked boys, hence the surname has died out with me.
