Passed to rest, at the residence of his son William, at Welland, on Friday, July 31st, 1908, David Stapf, in the 86th year of his age, after a lingering illness.
Deceased was a native of Baden, Germany, where he was born on Dec. 30, 1822. He fought in the war of the rebellion, Baden and Prussia, 1818. Came to America in 1850, and after staying in Buffalo for about three years, settled in Humberstone, where he resided for 30 years.

After the death of his wife, in 1889, he came to Welland, where he lived until his demise. He leaves one daughter, Mrs E. Haetteick of Buffalo, and two sons, Charles and William of Welland. One son, John, of Buffalo, predeceased him last fall, two sisters and three brothers in Baden also survive.
Deceased was a man of sterling honesty and integrity and a devout and earnest Christian, possessing the respect and esteem of all who knew him. His funeral was held on Monday, burial from the R.C. church in the cemetery adjoining. The High Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Trayling, who also preached an eloquent sermon. The choir beautifully rendered the hymn “Ave Sanctissima,” it being the favorite hymn of the deceased when he was in the choir.
