Jim,

I have been studying this family of late. I found an 1841 civil case in Logan County, Ohio, that names three sons of Rebecca (Dickinson) Starbuck. My summary of the case is here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=treadway&id=I26982

The sons' names were Joseph D Starbuck, George W Starbuck, and Leroy B Starbuck.

Since Samuel and Rebecca were married in 1822, any of their children would have still been minors in 1841, so I suspect these three sons were all of Rebecca's offspring then living. By later records, it appears Joseph D was born about 1831 (age 29 in 1860 census, Logan County, Ohio), George W about 1833 (age 17 in 1850 Logan County census, in the household with his mother who had remarried to John Sloan), and Leroy B in 1834 (birth date so stated in his the record of his marriage to Emma E Hudson in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1914, which also names his parents.) It seems likely they had older siblings born in the 1820s who died before the suit was filed. Perhaps Sanford was one of these.

I find no record of Joseph Starbuck after the 1860 census. Did he die in the Civil War? His son Joseph D Starbuck married Amanda Predmore in about 1875 and had at least seven children, including sons Charles Cleveland Starbuck, Joseph Leroy Starbuck, and George L Starbuck.

I also do not have record of George W Starbuck after he appears in the 1860 census of Jackson Township, Hardin County, Ohio, under the name of Geo Starbug, occupation brick mason.

I do not have ready access to the 1830 census. It would be interesting to know if Samuel and Rebecca had any children alive at that time.

These brothers had an older half-sister who they never knew. Elizabeth Starbuck was daughter of Samuel and his first wife Asenath Hodgin. After her mother's death, she was raised by her mother's family in Belmont County. She never saw her father after his remarriage. (In the days before train travel, it would have been a long hard journey from Logan County to Belmont County, and it does not appear that Samuel ever had much money to spare.) She is my 3-greats grandmother. Elizabeth's story is here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=treadway&id=I26982

I am attempting to trace all of Samuel's descendants, and be glad for any help anyone can give. I am also eager to meet descendants of Samuel's second family. My information is available here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=treadway&id=I3603
