Stauntons of Eastern Maryland, 1750-1775
Hello,
I am researching the family of Sarah Lucy Staunton. She was born 1725-1750 probably in Eastern MD or England. She was probably married in MD to William Wallace prior to 1773.Her father, family history has it, was the younger son of Lord Stenton of England???He supposedly came with his family to MD in the late 1600's and owned large tracts of land, and owned many slaves and ships. They must have moved to NC by 1775 as during the revolutionary war, there is a family story about how the soldiers in NC would come by hungry, and the Staunton children hid their pig out in the woods. The next day, the pig had come back and was eating out front despite their efforts to hide him.
Anyway, their daughter, Sarah Wallace married a man by the name of William Nickols bef 1809.Sarah Wallace went on to have eleven children and eventually moved from NC to TN.
I would love to hear from anyone researching this family. Thanks in advance for any information you might provide!
