Instead of carrying on this debate, I am going to start posting as much as I can as listed in my Steed "Index", with sources (also, included in my index). So here goes: D1742 John Steed marr. Cath. Cox., Phila, Pa., from book "RECORDS OF PA. MARRIAGES PRIOR TO 1810". They marr. in 1st Presbyterian Church in Phila., Pa. 9-14-1742. D1775M John Steed Marr. Lydia Robinson 5-26-1775 Shenandoah Co., Va. Soucre LDS Library and also contained in book "SHENANDOAH COUNTY MARRIAGE BONDS" listed bondsman as Adam Reader. D1776 First census of the United States listed the following on page 100: Steed, John with 1 free white male of 16 years or older, 5 free white males under 16 year, 5 free white females including heads of families. They in Hillsborough District, Randolph Co., Va. D1776 John Steed marr. Anna Hutton P460, Oct. 4, 1776, Pa. D1776 Following from book "HISTORICAL REGISTER OF VIRGINIANS IN THE REVOLUTION" by Gwathmdy, pub. by the Dietz Press, Richmond, Va.: Steed John 2nd Lt., 8 Cl., Feb. 19, 1776; 1st Lt. Jan. 3, 1777; Captain Mar. 30, 1778; trans to 4th Cl. Sep. 14, 1778; taken prisoner at Charleston May 12, 1780; exchanged Oct. 1780; served to close of war; awarded 4,6666 acres". D1725 The following from book 'THE ABRIDGED COMPENDIUM OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY" The Standard Genealogical Encyclopedia of the FIRST FAMILIES OF AMERICA, PAGE 431: 1-STEED, Joshua Nathaniel, b Asheboro, N.C. July 19, 1862. 5-Capt. John Steed (1725-1800), from Eng. to Brunswick Co., Va., 1735; 4th Va. Inf. in Am. Rev.; m1746 Mary Randolph, of Brunswick Co., Va.
