Temperance Steelman (My elusive ancester)
At time of marriage to Richard Smith in Gloucester County in 1817, Temperance Steelman lived in Upper Township, Cape May.
The closest I could come to her was a record of birth of Temperance Steelman in 1804 in New Albany, Floyd, Indiana.
Her parents were listed as Mathias Steelman of Rowan or Surry County, NC and his wife Sally Estep.
However, the geneology of Sally Estep shows her as being born in 1798.... too young to be mother of Temperance.
Sally did have an aunt Sally Estep whose age would be more fitting... but she is listed as married to Lewis Smith.
There is a marriage record in NJ of James Steelman of GT
Egg Hrbr to Temperance Sayre in 1856. Perhaps these are
grandparents of my Temperance (Tempy).
Does anyone out there have any clues about Temperance Steelman?
