Steeves/Steves Family Reunion in British Columbia
1) 2002 is the 125th anniversary of the arrival of the Steeves family in British Columbia. We invite all Steeves family descendants to join us in Steveston, BC, August 8th to 12th, 2002.
2) During the week of August 8th to 12th, the City of Richmond, where Steveston is located, will host the start of the Tall Ships 2002 race along the west coast of North America. The ships will be located in Steveston Harbour.
3) My wife Kathy, friend Mitsuo Yesaki and I have written a book about the history of our world famous Cannery Row, "Steveston Cannery Row, an Illustrated History." Please e-mail for details.
4) Manoah and Martha Steves arrived in BC in 1877 and founded Steveston in 1890. Other Steeves, Lutz and Trites descendants soon followed. Martha was the daughter of William and Mary Osborne Taylor. The Taylor house where she was born still stands in Hillsborough. We would like to make contact with any surviving members of the Taylor family to research that branch of our family. Martha had a sister Clara Taylor, and neice Mary Harding. Other members of the Harding family pictured in our family album are children Ruth, Will, Naomi (Nun), Alice and Warren. They were somehow related to Warren Harding, President of the United States. Martha had a brother Robert. I believe his son Frank (Francis) was the last Taylor in the Taylor house. The Robert Taylor family is listed on p 86 & 87 of "The Steeves Descendants."
