I am new to this site and have been searching for my Steffey ancestors. I just located an online article from the Coumbia Spy (early newspaper in Lancaster Co. PA) from July 20, 1833. It's part of a newly digitized system for Lancaster Co.
The article is entitled Longevity and is about Michael Steffy who it says is upwards of one hundred five years of age. The article further states that he was in the battle of Trenton and received several sabre wounds and was also in the battle of Germantown. Additionally, I found this article at the Stark Co. District Library in Canton, OH which appears to confirm it:
From: Marriages and Deaths from Newspapers of Lancaster Co. PA, 1831-1840
Steffy, Michael p. 212 Lancaster Examiner, Aug. 30, 1838
Died in Lancaster Co. June last, Michael Steffey, aged 110 yrs, 4 mos. His wife died seven years ago, aged 103 yrs.
I have not seen any other information about this Michael Steffy and thought some of you might be interested.
I am working backward on my line from John Marshall Steffey b. 4 Mar 1828 in Rockingham Co. VA, to John W. Steffy b. abt 1800 in Rockinham Co. VA to possible Philip Stephy b. 1765-1766 in New Holland, Lancaster Co. PA. If anyone has information on this line I'd appreciate hearing from you and will be happy to share information.
Charlotte Steffey Greenfelder
