Martin Steffey, 1810-1894, Adams Co. PA

Martin Steffy was listed as 'Burgess' in 1869 and 1870-71. Family oral history tells us that he was a "southern sympathizer" and was arrested briefly, but later released and nothing much became of it. Also, a Francis Steffy is listed as Adams County Auditor in 1878. Mary Wilson is possibly listed in this data incorrectly, as family information has her as the wife of Martin Steffey, but we are uncertain. From the book '1886 History OF Adams County Pennsylvania' Chapter XXXIII, Germany Township and Borough of Littlestown: "In 1867 the large brick school building was erected by the Catholic congregation, where Miss Mary Wilson, now Mrs. Steffy, was the first teacher." Need some clarification.
