I read with interest your 2003 posting on the Stein Family Forum.

My uncle was Herbert M. Stein, Jr. from Mobile, AL. He was married to my mother's sister. I have been told that his grandfather was Albert Stein, who designed the water works for the city of Mobile. After doing some research on Albert Stein, I now believe he was Herbert's great-grandfather.

Albert Stein came to this country from Germany as a young man and designed water systems for Cincinnati, Nashville, Lynchburg, VA and Richmond, VA before moving to Mobile where he settled. No doubt he met his wife when he was in Nashville in the 1830's.

Are there any more Steins buried in the cemetery that you mentioned? Where is the cemetery located? I grew up in Mobile and perhaps on our next visit, I can check it out.
