It's good to know I'm not the only one looking. My husband is decended from George Herman and Matilda Stein through their son George William, his daughter Esther Mattie Stein Belcher, her son Joseph William Belcher and my husband Randy. I think I've heard of your g'pa if he was known as Uncle Ludie. My mom-in-law remembers Uncle Ludie visiting Mattie and I know Mattie made many trips to Chariton Co to visit family. We still have the geode rocks to prove it! We live in Thompson Mo in Audrain Co.
All my father-in-law knew was that George Herman immigrated from Mechlinburg Germany with his family probably when he was a young boy. I have never had to research immigration and have no idea where to start. George William ended up in Randolph Co which is close to us.
If I make any headway I will let you know and would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks again Jan
