I'm trying to trace the family of my gg-grandfather Franz von Stein (1831-1896). He came to the U.S. around 1880 from Baden Germany following the death of his wife. I think her name was Elise Goetz, but need confirmation on that. Children are Amalia Stein, Charles Valentine Stein, Gertrude Stein,
Kate Stein (married Jim Cunningham), and Joseph Adam Stein (my great-grandfather who married Emilia Luderus). Our oral family history says they left Prussia so the sons would not have to serve in the military. The family dropped the "von" from the name after coming to the U.S. Franz remarried and had more children, but I don't know his 2nd wife's name or the names of the children. The only obit I found for him calls his wife Mrs. Stein and says they had young children. He died from snake bite at age 65.
My great-grandfather, Joseph Adam Stein was born Sept.28, 1871 in Konegshofen, Baden, Germany.
I'd love to connect with anyone who has info about my family. Thank you.
