Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I have a copy of the obituary of Mary Jane Alcorn Steinmetz b. 22 June 1842 in Platte County, Missouri. She was m. to F.W. Steinmetz (Frederick William) at Rushville, Missouri in 1864. It says he died in 1892 and she died 1916 both in Jefferson County, probably Valley Falls. Children living at the time of her death were: William A. of Rock Creek, Kansas, John Henry and Albert Roscoe of Valley Falls, Kansas, Mary Etta Ray of Billings, Montana and Martha M. Chapman of Topeka, Kansas. Her only surviving sibling was Melvin Alcorn of St. Joseph, Missouri. It says that the family come from Missouri to Kansas in 1876 but I don't find them on the 1880 Census. I have the Alcorn line but can't find the Steinmetz line further back than this. We are from Albert Roscoe and Albert Roscoe Jr who both lived and died at Valley Falls, Kansas. Are you related?
